OH! · O · The Fool
Before there is a claim, there is an encounter.
Something appears.
A question. A contradiction. A desire. A doubt. A fact that will not sit quietly. Something in the world, or in ourselves, asks to be noticed.
Sudaism begins here.
Not with certainty.
Not with doctrine.
Not even with belief.
With attention.
OH! is the opening movement – the point at which the familiar is interrupted and a possibility invites attention.
The Fool does not yet know where the path leads. That is not a defect. It is the condition of beginning.
To enter the Way is to allow that what you currently believe may not survive unchanged.
And that something better may be waiting beyond it.
The opening
Every proceeding begins before the first argument.
There is a moment when something becomes worth examining.
A claim may emerge from wonder, irritation, fear, curiosity, evidence, injustice, love, error or accident.
The source does not determine whether the Claim will stand.
What matters is whether we are willing to follow it.
OH! is therefore not innocence.
It is consent to inquiry.
But attention alone does not take us into the Way.
